To ask the Deputy Prime Minister what guidance his Department gives local authorities in relation to the adoption of footpaths. [112885]

Vehicle Crime Reduction Campaign

During the financial year 2002–03 Commercial partners provided sponsorship support to the Home Office Vehicle Crime Reduction (VCR) Communications Campaign by extending the key messages of the campaign to their own customers and staff. The activity was ongoing throughout the period. The total sponsorship was £1,752,564. Detailed information on sponsors is in the table:

I have been asked to reply.My Department has recently issued a Guidance Note to local authorities on the adoption of private streets and footpaths. I have arranged for copies to be placed in the Libraries of the House.
