To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what additional expenditure over and above that identified prior to 1 April 2002 (a) was spent in 2002–03 and (b) will be spent in 2003–04 on national and regional resilience work for essential services; whether arrangements exist to release expenditure during the current financial year for resilience projects under consideration for essential services; and if she will make a statement. [holding answer 16 May 2003]: My Department received a supplementary £1.2 million in 2002–03 and will be given the same amount in 2003–04 and 2004–05 to help improve the resilience of essential services and overall contingency planning in line with Government policy.These funds have, and will be, allocated on the basis of risk assessments and consequence management.
