To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what her policy is regarding the future of the BBC Charter. [114097]

The current BBC Charter will expire on 31 December 2006. We will announce our approach to the review of the Charter in due course. However, we have made clear that the review will involve a comprehensive appraisal of the BBC's role in the digital age; that it will include an extensive process of industry and public consultation and parliamentary debate; and that OFCOM will make a full contribution.
