To ask the Secretary of State for Health what research he has commissioned to indicate that the imaging of the iris would aggravate existing cataracts or accelerate their formation. [117876]

[holding answer 9 June 2003]: The Department is not aware of any research that has been carried out that shows that the imaging of the iris can aggravate existing cataracts or accelerate their formation.
