To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what the breakdown was of the budget for (a) the PSNI conference on ethnic minorities in October 2002 and (b) the PSNI conference on young people held in March 2003; and how many people attended each event. [114147]

The PSNI conference, "New Directions; a Human Rights and Racial Equality Focus on Policing with Ethnic Minority Communities" held on 21 and 22 October 2002 was attended by approximately 230 delegates on both days.The PSNI conference on Young People and the Police, "Always Seen, Rarely Heard" took place on 25 and 26 March 2003 and was attended by 253 and 234 people respectively over the two days.The following table shows the breakdown of costs for these conferences.
