To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the cost of treatment for drug dependency and drug related illnesses in London in each of the past five years. [116483]

The pooled drug treatment allocations for London were £32 million in 2001–2 and £43.8 million for 2002–3. This is an increase of 37 per cent. In addition to this substantial money is also spent on drug treatment from National Health Service mainstream resources the details of which are not held centrally.
