To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many convictions there have been in each of the last five years in England under the Protection Against Cruel Tethering Act 1988. [118989]

The Protection of Animals Act 1911 is classified as a whole on the Home Office Court Proceedings database so that it is not possible to distinguish offences of cruel tethering from other offences of cruelty to animals. There were 975 persons proceeded against for all offences under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 in England and Wales in 2001, 754 of whom were found guilty.
