To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Anti-Social Behaviour Orders have been issued since their introduction. [124145]

Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) were introduced from 1 April 1999. The provisional number of notifications received by the Home Office of ASBOs granted within England and Wales, up to 31 March 2003 (latest available), is 1,096.We are aware that the numbers of ASBOs made nationally have been consistently under-reported in returns made by magistrates courts. A recent reconciliation exercise with the police identified a further 125 ASBOs, for the period 1 October 2001 to 31 December 2002, which had not been reported by the courts. The figure quoted above includes these orders.
