To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of a possible link between obesity and Alzheimer's disease. [126840]

The Department has not assessed the possible link between obesity and Alzheimer's disease.The key message of the Alzheimer's Society Alzheimer's Awareness Week was that there are steps that can be taken that might minimise the risk of developing dementia in later life. The Alzheimer's Society considers it helpful to reduce intake of salt and saturated fat and try to lower any high blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
