To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs if she will list (a) the names, titles and grades of the officials who sit on the EU advisory committee on the transportation of radioactive waste (surveillance and control), (b) the number of times, and the dates, on which it has met since January 2002, (c) the agenda items it has considered since January 2002, (d) the decisions it has made since January 2002 and (e) the means used to communicate the decisions to the House.
I assume the hon. Member is referring to the advisory Committee established under Article 19 of European Council Directive 92/3/EURATOM on the supervision and control of shipments of radioactive waste between member states and into and out of the Community. This Committee does not have a fixed membership, but consists of delegates drawn from each of the 15 European member states. The Committee meets on an ad-hoc basis and has met once since January 2002, on 18 October 2002, to consider possible amendments to the Directive suggested by a European Commission working group on simpler legislation in the internal market. The Commission took note of the views of the Committee and is expected to bring forward further proposals in due course.
