Boundary Proposals (Election Periods)

Volume 447: debated on Monday 5 June 2006

To ask the hon. Member for Gosport, representing the Speaker's Committee on the Electoral Commission whether it is the policy of the Electoral Commission not to issue Boundary Committee proposals during an election period. (74911)

The Electoral Commission's responsibilities in relation to boundary matters extend only to local authority ward boundaries in England. I am informed that its statutory committee, the Boundary Committee for England, has not issued proposals for new local authority electoral arrangements during an election period since April 2002.
