Council House Sales

Volume 447: debated on Monday 12 June 2006

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, pursuant to the answer of 17 March 2006, Official Report, column 2583W, on council house sales, what measures her Department takes to ensure local authorities use the 25 per cent. of retained capital receipts from the sale of council housing under the right-to-buy scheme on capital rather than revenue programmes. (73459)

The only ways in which local authorities may use their capital receipts are set out in regulation 23 of the Local Authorities (Capital Finance and Accounting) (England) Regulations 2003 (S.I. 2003/3146, as amended). Receipts retained from sales of council housing may be used for capital expenditure but not normally for revenue expenditure.
