Incapacity Benefit

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions pursuant to the answer of 7 March 2006, Official Report, column 1350W to the hon. Member for Putney (Justine Greening), on incapacity benefit, when he expects his Department to conclude its review of the incapacity benefits caseload forecasts; and whether he plans to publish the forecasts. The latest forecast estimates of the number of incapacity benefit or severe disablement allowance claimants, consistent with the best available data, are shown up to 2019-20 in the following table. These forecasts do not take into account any of the proposed policy changes in the recent papers, “A new deal for welfare: Empowering people to work”, or “Security in retirement: towards a new pensions system”.
