Volume 448: debated on Thursday 6 July 2006

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what counselling services are provided for teachers who develop stress-related illnesses as a result of dealing with persistently badly behaved pupils. (82722)

It is employers who have the responsibility for the health and safety of their staff and this includes access to Occupational Health Services. In addition, governing bodies and head teachers are encouraged to adopt or participate in health awareness programmes so that their staff can make full use of the welfare and counselling services available. The Department is also implementing a wide range of programmes for schools to manage pupil behaviour more effectively.
