HM Revenue and Customs Offices

Volume 448: debated on Tuesday 11 July 2006

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment has been made of the effects on compliance of (a) closing and (b) reducing staff at local HM Revenue and Customs offices; and if he will make a statement. (83446)

In the 2004 Spending Review, the Government set HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) challenging performance targets for the years 2005 to 2008. They have also been set stretching targets to achieve resource efficiencies following the merger of the two former tax departments in April 2005. HMRC is making good progress against all these objectives, as outlined in their Spring Departmental Report 2006 (Cm 6832).
