To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment his Department has made of the impact of the use of pay as you go mobile phones on the level of UK crime. (92997)

In December 2001, the Home Office published a comprehensive assessment (Harrington and Mayhew) of the impact of the mobile phone on crime. This study helped to provide the basis for close working with the police and the mobile phone industry, to reduce mobile phone crime generally.

However, no assessment has been made of the impact specifically of the use of pay as you go mobile phones on the level of crime in the UK.
