To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what the Planning Inspectorate's policy is on fast-tracking planning appeals relating to (a) residential developments and (b) care homes. (95900)

Following receipt of Kate Barker's Report on Housing Supply the Government decided that for 2006-07 the Planning Inspectorate's key performance targets should include for England the following timeliness proposals for 10 or more dwellings:

To open all hearings within 20 weeks of the start date of the case.

To issue 80 per cent. of decisions within 10 weeks of the close of the hearing.

To open all inquiries within 20 weeks of the start date of the case.

To issue 80 per cent. of decisions within 10 weeks of the close of the inquiry.

There is no policy to fast-track planning appeals for other categories.
