Where there are contractual specifications referring to the disposal of foreign coin dies, the Royal Mint complies with those clauses, either destroying or returning the dies as appropriate. In other cases, the Royal Mint may choose to retain a small selection of master tools or production dies in the Royal Mint museum which acts as a source of reference both to overseas central banks and to other mints.
