Prisons

Volume 450: debated on Wednesday 25 October 2006

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners housed in category D facilities have been charged with assaulting (a) fellow inmates and (b) prison workers in the last five years. (94284)

The information is not available in the specific format requested. HM Prison Service collects data on the number of assaults on prisoners and on staff and others, which result in a positive disciplinary adjudication. This information is shown below in Table A for prisons that were categorised as open, where the majority of category D prisoners are held, over the last five financial years. The figures exclude assaults that have resulted in completed or pending criminal prosecutions and these are shown recorded separately in Table B.
