To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if she will make representations to the UN requesting an urgent investigation into allegations by the former Rwandan ambassador to France regarding France's role in the Rwandan genocide. (97953)

[holding answer 30 October 2006]: In 1999, the United Nations conducted a comprehensive investigation into the Rwanda genocide of 1994 and the actions taken at the time by the international community. The United Kingdom welcomed the Secretary-General's resulting recommendations. With respect to recent allegations by the former Rwandan ambassador to France, we understand investigations are under way in Rwanda.
