The cessation of hostilities has continued to hold and Israeli troops have completed their withdrawal from Lebanon, except for the divided town of Ghajar. Ten thousand Lebanese armed forces are now deployed in the south for the first time in many years and there is effective co-ordination between them, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Israel Defence Force. On the ground there are currently 8,000 soldiers deployed in UNIFIL. There has been good progress too on reconstruction and recovery work, in which the UK has played a significant part.
