Police Service of Northern Ireland

Volume 453: debated on Monday 27 November 2006

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many members of ethnic minorities are serving as permanent full-time police officers in Northern Ireland. (102478)

I am advised that as at 23 November 2006, there were 21 members of ethnic minorities serving as permanent full-time police officers in Northern Ireland. This equates to 0.29 per cent. of the overall workforce composition which compares favourably with the overall level (0.48 per cent.) of the working age ethnic minority population. Moreover, the PSNI have a number of positive outreach campaigns aimed at recruiting people from ethnic minorities.
