To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what estimate she has made of the number of mosques that (a) were and (b) were not registered as (i) charities and (ii) trusts in each year since 2001. (107575)

I have been asked to reply asthe Minister for the third sector. The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities, is responsible for deciding whether or not any particular mosque is eligible to register as a charity, and for keeping the register of charities. I have therefore asked the Commission’s Chief Executive to write to the hon. Member. A copy of this letter will be placed in the Library for the reference of Members.
