Royal Free Hospital

Volume 454: debated on Wednesday 6 December 2006

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what steps are being taken by the Royal Free hospital to reduce cases of MRSA; what progress has been made in reducing cases; and what proportion of patients at the Royal Free arrive at the hospital with MRSA; (100744)

(2) what new (a) products and (b) techniques to control MRSA are being trialled at the Royal Free hospital; and what the estimated cost is of these trials.

The Department’s meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) improvement team provided a package of support and advice to the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, tailored to its specific needs in tackling MRSA bacteraemias.
