Duty Free Allowances

Volume 454: debated on Wednesday 6 December 2006

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he expects the European Commission to raise the duty free allowance for bringing goods into the country from outside the EU to £1,000. (104669)

On 28 November, European Finance Ministers agreed to raise the duty free allowance for people returning from outside the EU by air and sea to €430 (£290). This doubles the current allowance for all UK travellers returning from third countries. The allowance will be reviewed every four years, providing the opportunity for further increases.
