Freedom of Movement of Workers

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what qualifications are required for membership of the EC Advisory Committee on the Freedom of Movement of Workers. (107212)

The Advisory Committee on Freedom of Movement for Workers is composed of six members for each member state, two of whom represent the Government, two the trade unions and two the employers’ associations. No other qualifications are required.

The Committee is set up under Articles 24 and 25 of Regulation (EEC) No. 1612/68, on freedom of movement of workers within the European Community. Its role is to assist the European Commission in the examination of any questions arising from the application of the Treaty in matters concerning the freedom of movement of workers and their employment.
