Finished consultant episode (FCE) A FCE is defined as a period of admitted patient care under one consultant within one health care provider. 2 Please note that the figures do not represent the number of patients, as a person may have more than one episode of care within the year. 3. All diagnoses count as episodes. These figures represent a count of all FCEs where the diagnosis was mentioned in any of the 14 (seven prior to 2002-03) diagnosis fields in a HES record. 4. Diagnosis (primary diagnosis) The primary diagnosis is the first of up to 14 (seven prior to 2002-03) diagnosis fields in the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) data set and provides the main reason why the patient was in hospital. 5. The ICD-10 codes used in this analysis were as follows: F11—Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of opioids. F12—Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of cannabinoids. F13—Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of sedatives or hypnotics. F14—Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of cocaine. F15—Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of other stimulants, including caffeine.F16—Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of hallucinogens. F18—Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of volatile solvents.F19—Mental and behavioural disorders due to multiple drug use and use of other psychoactive substances.
