To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will assess the merits of introducing measures to prohibit offensive chants and slogans being used at demonstrations. (107684)

Public Order legislation is kept under review in the light of changing circumstances and demonstrator behaviour. The police have a range of powers available now to deal with demonstrations. For example, it is an offence to use or display threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress.
