Irish Language Legislation

On 13 October at St Andrews, the Government made a commitment to introduce an Irish Language Act, reflecting on the experience of Wales and the Republic of Ireland. 1 am publishing today a consultation document setting out possible approaches for such legislation. The Government welcome views from all interested parties. The closing date for responses is 2 March 2006.

Copies of the document will be placed in the Libraries of both Houses today.
