To ask the Secretary of State for Health what (a) efficiency and (b) productivity indicators she uses to assess standards of (i) care and (ii) value for money of NHS trusts' performance. (106161)

The Healthcare Commission and the Audit Commission have the statutory responsibility for assessing the performance of national health service trusts. The results of this work is published in the annual health check which covers both quality of care and value for money.

The NHS Institute of Innovation and Improvement now publishes the ‘Better Care, Better Value Indicators’ which supports the work of NHS trusts in improving their efficiency and productivity.
