Volume 455: debated on Monday 8 January 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what guidance is given to primary care trusts on making available to patients drug treatments which are licensed but are not yet a part of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence’s work programme. (108508)

In 1999 the Department issued health service circular 1999/176, which asks national health service bodies to continue with local arrangements for the managed introduction of new technologies where guidance from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has not yet been issued. The Department issued an updated version of this guidance on 14 December 2006 and copies have been placed in the Library.
