To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many employees in the Food Standards Agency have qualifications relating to the dairy industry; and how many scientists are employed by the Food Standards Agency. (112748)

Some 40 per cent. of the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) 750 staff are scientists. They include microbiologists, chemists, toxicologists and others with more generalist scientific qualifications. Scientists work on the full range of the agency’s business as and when the need arises. This includes work on dairy related issues.
