Unitary Authorities

Volume 455: debated on Thursday 18 January 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what recent representations she has received about creating a new unitary authority in Nottinghamshire together with an extended unitary authority for the City of Nottingham; whether she intends the powers set out in the Local Government and Public Involvement in the Health Bill to allow this; and if she will make a statement. (115965)

[holding answer 17 January 2007]: We have received two written representations about this issue and the powers set out in the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Bill provide for such a possibility. The current Invitation to Councils however specifies that all proposals must be based on existing boundaries.
