Working Time Directive

Volume 455: debated on Thursday 25 January 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what discussions she has had with (a) members of the European Commission and (b) representatives of other member states of the European Union on the introduction of definitions of (i) on-call time and (ii) inactive on-call time into the European working time directive; and if she will make a statement. (116117)

Together with many member states we continue to seek changes to the European working time directive to address the difficulties from the SiMAP and Jaeger judgments. Both the retention of the opt-out and a solution for the problems caused by these judgments regarding on-call time remain priorities for the UK. We will continue to try to secure an acceptable agreement with member states and the European Commission.
