Young Offenders

Volume 456: debated on Wednesday 31 January 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many (a) male and (b) female (i) juvenile and (ii) young adult offenders were held in secure accommodation in each region in England and Wales in each year since 1997; and if he will make a statement. (106972)

Information on the numbers of young adult offenders, grouped together with juvenile offenders, (a) male and (b) female in each region in England and Wales since 1997 can be found in the following table. Information on the numbers of juvenile young offenders taken separately covering the period requested could not be obtained without disproportionate cost.

The figures provided have been drawn from administrative IT systems.

Although care is taken when processing and analysing the returns, the detail collected is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system, and although shown to the last individual the figures may not be accurate to that level.
