Atomic Weapons Establishment: Finance

Volume 458: debated on Monday 12 March 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how much each of the armed services is contributing to the planned additional spending at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in each of the next five years. (124587)

As the White Paper, “The Future of the United Kingdom’s Nuclear Deterrent”, published in December 2006, made clear, the investment required to maintain our deterrent will not come at the expense of the conventional capabilities our armed forces need. The additional investment at the Atomic Weapons Establishment averaging £350 million per annum over the years 2005-06 to 2007-08 was included in the Defence Budget through the 2004 Spending Review process. The Defence Budget for future years will be set in the Comprehensive Spending Review.
