Bankruptcy: Lancashire

Volume 458: debated on Monday 12 March 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many local businesses in Lancashire went bankrupt in each of the last five years. (126150)

Regional insolvency statistics are only available on the basis of the locations of official receivers' offices, each of which covers a group of county courts where the cases are heard and the courts having jurisdiction over these. It is not possible to provide precise statistics by administrative geographies such as counties, constituencies or Government Office regions. The following table provides figures for self-employed bankruptcies and company compulsory liquidations dealt with by courts having insolvency jurisdiction and located within Lancashire1. These statistics are considered to be closest to those requested, however they should not be treated as entirely reliable estimates for the county of Lancashire.

1 Courts with insolvency jurisdiction within Lancashire are Blackburn, Blackpool, Burnley, Lancaster, Preston and Tameside.
