Volume 458: debated on Wednesday 28 March 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what the Department’s total spending was on advertising and promotional campaigns in each year since 1997; and what the cost of each campaign was, broken down by costs relating to (a) television, (b) radio and (c) print media. (128041)

The Department for Work and Pensions was formed on 8 June 2001 from parts of the former Department for Social Security, the former Department for Education and Employment, and the Employment Service. Information prior to 2001 is not held centrally and can be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

The following tables detail spend on all advertising and promotional campaigns run by the Department for Work and Pensions for each complete financial year since June 2001.

The tables do not include the following, as the information is not held centrally and to obtain it would incur disproportionate cost:

spend by non-departmental bodies for which the Department is responsible

details of highly localised publicity activity by the Department's customer-facing businesses

recruitment or procurement advertising

The figures in these tables refer to media spend only, and exclude production and other costs. All figures have been rounded to the nearest 1,000. Figures may not sum due to rounding.

All figures are exclusive of VAT.
