British Airways: Standards

Volume 459: debated on Friday 20 April 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what assessment his Department has made of the recent performance of British Airways; (132008)

(2) what discussions he has had with British Airways on their record of service to travellers in recent months;

(3) what steps he is taking to ensure that (a) British Airways and (b) BAA plc. has made appropriate preparations to manage risk.

As private companies, British Airways and BAA are responsible in the first instance to their shareholders for their performance. However, on behalf of transport users the Department takes a close interest in the operations of all UK airports and airlines as we do with all transport sectors, and in that context regular engagement is maintained with BA and BAA, including on consumer issues.
