Welfare Tax Credits: Overpayments

Volume 459: debated on Wednesday 2 May 2007

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer pursuant to the answer to question 128930 on 16 April 2007, Official Report, column 421W, if he will publish figures showing the number of notices of warning of legal proceedings if payment is not made which were sent to individuals claiming tax credits who were in dispute with HM Revenue and Customs in each month from April 2003 to March 2007. (133656)

It is HMRC’s policy to suspend the recovery of overpayments while a dispute is being considered, and therefore should not issue notices of warning of legal proceedings while this is taking place.
