Housing: Parking

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what assessment she has made of the impact of planning guidelines for building new properties with one and a half car spaces on levels of congestion in neighbouring roads; and if she will make a statement. (136751)

Planning Policy Statement 3: “Housing”, published last November, gives local authorities the responsibility for deciding their policies for residential car-parking, taking account of expected levels of car ownership, the importance of promoting good design, and the need to use land efficiently. The guidance in Planning Policy Guidance Note 3, “Housing” which advocated residential parking standards of no more than 1.5 off-street spaces per average dwelling has been cancelled.
