Volume 461: debated on Monday 4 June 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what estimate he has made of the effect on (a) pupil attendance and (b) availability of places of changes to the English for Speakers of Other Languages programme's funding. (139782)

The funding changes being made to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) from August 2007 are not expected to result in significant changes to the availability of ESOL places.

The overall funding will remain broadly comparable to this year and will be re-prioritised towards those people in the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, including those who are out of work through lack of skills and settled immigrant communities facing challenges to integration.
