To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received in the last three years on the adequacy of monitoring by Government inspectors of animals used in laboratory experiments. (139280)

There have been no formal representations to the Secretary of State about the adequacy of monitoring by Animals (Scientific Procedures) Inspectors of animals used in laboratory experiments within the last three years. Members of the Inspectorate are all medical or veterinary graduates, are highly professional and dedicated, and have the complete confidence of Government Ministers. Information about their activities and achievements are published in the Inspectorate’s annual report.
