Poultry: Auctions

Volume 461: debated on Monday 11 June 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs when he expects it to be safe to allow poultry auctions to reopen. (141020)

At present, there are no bans on poultry auctions. The temporary ban on gatherings involving chickens and ducks during the recent case of low pathogenic H7N2 avian influenza was lifted on Friday 1 June. Bird gatherings, including auctions, can now proceed as before, subject to the usual biosecurity, notification and record keeping conditions in the general licence, which can be found on the DEFRA website.
