Chlamydia Infection: Screening

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps her Department is taking to ensure the accuracy of chlamydia testing kits on sale in the UK. (144153)

Manufacturers of chlamydia testing kits are obliged to meet specified requirements for their safety, quality and performance laid down in the Medical Devices Regulations 2002 (as amended) before they are placed on the United Kingdom market. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has post market surveillance responsibilities on behalf of the Secretary of State to enforce the regulations and investigate serious incidents involving this type of device.
