To ask the Secretary of State for Health what benchmarking she has (a) undertaken and (b) evaluated to assess the effectiveness of public health measures in the UK. (143007)

The Department has undertaken a range of benchmarking activities to assess the effectiveness of public health measures in the United Kingdom. Such benchmarking has shown that public health interventions can be effective in improving the health of the population and is provided through the national health service local delivery plan performance assessment system, nationally available public health data, National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence public health evidence reviews, and public health research and evaluation evidence.
