Disability Living Allowance: Children

Volume 462: debated on Wednesday 27 June 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions if he will extend the mobility component of the disability living allowance to parents of children below the age of three years; and if he will make a statement. (143144)

[holding answer 15 June 2007]: In April 2001 as a result of medical evidence, we reduced the age limit for entitlement from five to three years as the earliest point at which it can be reasonably determined whether a child’s inability, or virtual inability, to walk is the result of physical disability.

Therefore we have no current plans to make further changes to the lower age limit for entitlement to the higher rate of the disability living allowance mobility component.
