Accident and Emergency Departments: Cambridgeshire

Volume 463: debated on Monday 3 September 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what estimate he has made of the number of accident and emergency departments that will close in Cambridgeshire over the next five years. (151722)

The Department has made no assessment. This is a matter for the local national health service and we have been advised by the East of England Strategic Health Authority (SHA) that there are no plans to close accident and emergency (A&E) departments in Cambridgeshire. There is, however, a consultation on the way services are provided at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, but the SHA has assured us that all A&E service currently provided by Hinchingbrooke will continue to be available although the way they are provided may change to improve care for patients.
