Schools: Crimes of Violence

Volume 464: debated on Wednesday 10 October 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families how many assaults there were on school teachers in 2005-06 which led to exclusions, broken down by (a) by category of assault and (b) local education authority; and if he will make a statement. (154523)

Information on the number of assaults on school teachers is not collected centrally.

The Department does collect information on the number of permanent and fixed period exclusions from schools due to physical assault against an adult. The latest information is shown in the following tables.

However, due to underlying changes in the data collection, information on the reasons for exclusion is only available for maintained secondary schools for 2005-06.
