M2

Volume 464: debated on Thursday 11 October 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if she will take steps to improve the design and safety of Exit 5 of the M2. (156933)

The Highways Agency currently has no plans to improve the design and safety of the M2 junction 5. A safety improvement scheme was carried out at this junction in 2005 and this has resulted in a fall in the accident rates at this location. However, the agency continues to monitor the situation.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what the average length is of queues during rush-hour on the westbound side of the M2 at exit 5 towards the Stockbury roundabout. (156934)

The Highways Agency has no information on the length of traffic queues during rush hour on the westbound side of the M2 at Junction 5 towards the Stockbury roundabout.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if she will request that the Health and Safety Executive assess the safety of exit 5 on the M2. (156935)

The safety of the strategic road network in England is the responsibility of the Highways Agency.

I refer the hon. Member to my answer of 9 October 2007, Official Report, column 496W. Following investment in this junction between 2000 and 2005, safety improved and the junction is now a relatively low priority in safety terms. The Highways Agency continues to monitor the situation.
